9:00 am – noon Caledonia Mine Underground
Collecting ($ 70
event fee)Register for Event.
Orientation starts at
8:30 at the
Caledonia Mine Pavilion for this event.
Collect underground in
the stopes
of the Caledonia mine. Visit areas
not
normally open for group collecting. The number of participants will be
limited
so the group can be mobile. Hard hats, and mine lights are provided for
participants in this event. No metal detectors are allowed
underground. Safety Glasses and
gloves are required and may be purchased at the mine.
YOU MUST BE IN GOOD
PHYSICAL
CONDITION TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT. Participants will need to
be able
to navigate the steep inclined surface in the underground stopes with a
lot of
loose rock making tripping hazards common. Since safety is of highest
concern,
Red Metal Minerals reserves the right to refuse your participation
immediately
prior to the event. You will forfeit your event fee or in other words
you will
not get a refund! If you have any doubt about your own personal
physical
condition then do not register for this event. You may call Red
Metal
Minerals for additional information. You must be at least 16 years of
age and
IN GOOD PHYSICAL CONDITION to register for the underground collecting
event!!
The mine is dark and
cool (44
degrees). There are some areas with
shallow water, and an occasional bat.
You will get dirty, so dress appropriately.
We want your collecting
experience
to be fun and rewarding, but there is no guarantee of finding a
treasure.
9:00 am
-
noon Nebraska Mine Prepared Surface
Mineral Collecting ($ 27 event fee)Register
for Event.
Orientation
starts 15 minutes prior
to the event, at the Caledonia Mine
Pavilion.
You
may be on the site ONLY during the times of the event,
mineral rights are privately owned by Red Metal Minerals. We contract
heavy
equipment (bulldozer or excavator) to move rock to expose new materials
for
collecting. The newly moved rock will be coated with fine particles,
“muck”,
which will make finding minerals more challenging. Your eyes are the
essential
tool for mineral collecting. For finding minerals such as datolite,
your eyes
are the only tool. For finding native copper and native silver a metal
detector
can be quite valuable. We try to prepare
sufficient area to accommodate everyone allowed on the site. We also
limit the
number of participants per site. We want your collecting experience to
be fun
and rewarding, but there is no guarantee of finding a treasure.
We
will provide you with maps to
the collecting sites in your registration packet. You
must provide your own transportation to
the collecting sites. And you must
provide the skill and luck of collecting.
Metal detectors can be rented for this event.
When registering on-line, “purchase” both the
event, and the rental items.
9:00 am – noon Caledonia Mine

minerals. A water source for washing
rock is provided. 1 or 2
adults per pile only,
children may work with a “family pile”.
You will have 3 hours to go through
your pile.
You
will need hand tools (shovels,
rakes) etc to spread your pile, and an elevated screen is recommended
to sort
and rinse the rock. (These can easily be
constructed with 2 X 4s and screen).
Safety glasses and gloves are recommended.
We

treasure.
