⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Our family had an amazing time at the mine digging through the ore piles looking for datolite and native copper. We were able to find several nice pieces of copper along with a few datolite specimens, which made the trip even more exciting.

Miles was a tremendous help and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to show us what to look for, helped us identify datolite, and even assisted us in finding a small piece of copper that had a tiny speck of silver in it. His enthusiasm and willingness to share his knowledge really made the experience special.

This was a fantastic hands-on adventure for the whole family. We can't wait to come back and do it again. Highly recommended for anyone interested in minerals, geology, or just having a great time outdoors! I have included a picture of some of the copper ore that I was able to clean up.

The 3 of us purchased the family ore pile. There was a short introduction with staff who showed us what to look for. Almost immediately, we found some copper and eventually found multiple, very interesting and large specimins. If possible, bring gloves, bug spray and a metal detector. Although, we did not have a metal detector and still found a lot. It was a unique and fun experience for our family.

Great experience trying to search through the pile to find copper. Would highly recommend bringing a metal detector but the guide is great at helping identify important rocks/copper.

May 29th 2026 we had an amazing day! We bought a family size ore pile and found a lot of beautiful pieces. Yes it’s work, but so much fun. Our host Miles, was such a pleasure to talk to, he not only showed us what we were looking for, but took the time to find some pieces and taught us what to look for. He spent the day walking around to everyone there and helped clarify what they found and helped find pieces for them also. He was very polite and informative. We had such a good time we went back the next day. And had another great day! We are already talking about our next trip there. I highly recommend bringing a metal detector or a pin pointer and some hand tools. We had a blast!

Cool pay to dig mine. They go over the basics b4 you start then you drive down to your own private pile to dig through. They will guide you if needed. You park right next to the piles so very easy access and loading/unloading. Be sure to bring a metal detector and follow their specific directions, as Google map may lead you to a private driveway (the wrong way). My very 1st time there and I found copper with a CRYSTAL INSIDE!!! Totally made trip worth it.

We purchased the family copper ore dig pile. We had such a wonderful time. Everyone was so kind and generous. They even helped to find a couple datolite in our pile. Then I paid to have them cut and polished. They did a beautiful job. Highly recommend. What a wonderful experience.

I meant to make the review a long time ago. I went to the Caledonia Mine back in October 2024 and ended up taking the wrong route to the Caledonia Mine, if you go there make sure you go onto Caledonia Rd from Greenland, MI. Don’t try coming from the west otherwise it’s an extremely rocky rough road that ended up breaking my CVS axel & lower control arm on my Subaru and was stuck just minutes away from the Caledonia Mine. Thankfully I was able to get ahold of the owners Bethany & Preston at the Caledonia Mine who went ABOVE and BEYOND to get us some help, as well as sending Miles to bring me to the Mine while my dad worked on getting my car towed. I ended up having a blast at the mine, got to find lots of native copper and a small datolite in my pile! The surrounding area was beautiful and so peaceful. It was such a great experience that I’ll be coming back here again. Truly the best public mine in the entire state of Michigan. To look at pricing and to book a spot go on their website and you’ll find everything there! If I can recall it’s $100 for the native copper pile & $300 for the copper/datolite pile. Little pricey, but I promise you’ll find some cool rocks.

P.s they have a porta pottie & they were chill with us having our dog come along
